Comments |
| In
its initiative to cater for all aspects of the child, CHIPAWO
endeavoured and branched further into areas of the child that
were not being dealt with in detail. CHIPAWO is predominantly
a performances oriented organisation, thus the need for an
organisation that will give content, context and depth into
child related issues within the ambit of development hence
the birth of Mntwana. The organisation was then born in November
2005.
Mntwana
is a Bantu word for child. The emphasis therefore is on children,
how the current development realities affect them, and the
alternatives to that effect.
Mntwana
is an organisation that seeks to establish a humane future
for humanity through creating opportunities for child-to-child
interaction and support. The organisation seeks to build the
social capital of communities through encouraging children
to support each other. MntWana focuses on the rural disadvantaged
children in the marginal areas of Zimbabwe whose stories are
always excluded from national debate and policy.
Thus MntWANA has
four portfolios Gender, HIV and AIDS, Poverty Reduction and
Child Welfare.

Electronic
activism . . . get involved and use ICTs to advocate, lobby and mobilize.
Powerlessness
and silence go together. We should use our positions not as a shelter from the
world's reality, but as a platform from which to speak. A voice is a gift. It
should be cherished and used.
